A practical summary for teachers, sixth form staff, careers advisers and anyone running an education website. Free to use, print or share.
Key dates 2026
- A-Level, T Level and vocational results (England, Wales, Northern Ireland): Thursday 13 August 2026
- GCSE results (England, Wales, Northern Ireland): Thursday 20 August 2026
- SQA results (Scotland): Tuesday 4 August 2026
- Results are typically available from around 8:00am, though timings vary by centre.
Results morning timeline
- UCAS Hub is generally updated before students collect their slips
- Students arrive from around 8:00am to collect printed results
- Staff and advisers are usually available through the morning
- Clearing runs from results day through to late September
Three things students most often get wrong
- UCAS Adjustment is no longer available. Some students still expect to browse alternatives while keeping their confirmed place. That option no longer exists.
- Declining a place is irreversible. Using "Decline my place" in the UCAS application cancels the confirmed place, and the insurance place is lost too. Accommodation and scholarship arrangements may also be cancelled.
- A narrowly missed grade does not automatically mean a lost place. Students should check their status in UCAS Hub before assuming the worst.
