What time do GCSE results come out?
Most schools open from around 8am UK time, and many hand out results between about 8am and 10am. Your school sets the time and method (in person, email, text or a portal), and some stagger collection, so check its arrangements before the day.
Resits and your next steps
- Sixth form or college place. Confirm your place with the sixth form or college directly. There is no UCAS Clearing for GCSEs, so next steps come from your school and the providers you applied to.
- English and maths. In England, students who do not get a grade 4 in English or maths generally keep studying the subject after 16, often towards a resit.
- Grades lower than expected. Talk to your school and your chosen provider on the day: many have advisers available and alternative courses or entry routes.
- Better grades than expected. You may now meet the entry requirements for other courses. Ask the provider quickly, as popular courses fill up.
- Think a grade is wrong. Ask your school about a review of marking or an appeal through the exam board. There are deadlines, and the school makes the request, so raise it early.
