UK Time vs Canada
Canada spans six time zones. Toronto and eastern Canada change their clocks like the UK, but Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia now stay on the same time all year, so their gap to the UK changes when the UK changes its clocks.

Time difference
Canada is vast and covers six time zones from Newfoundland in the east to the Pacific coast in the west. The four most-used zones for UK contact are Eastern (Toronto), Manitoba (Winnipeg), Alberta (Calgary) and British Columbia (Vancouver).
Eastern Time (Toronto) is normally 5 hours behind the UK; it changes its clocks in spring and autumn, so that gap stays roughly constant. Manitoba (Winnipeg) has stayed on UTC-5 since 8 March 2026 and does not turn its clocks back in November 2026: 5 hours behind the UK in the UK winter and 6 hours behind in the UK summer. Alberta (Calgary) has stayed on UTC-6 all year since June 2026: 6 hours behind the UK in the UK winter and 7 hours behind in the UK summer. British Columbia (Vancouver) has stayed on UTC-7 all year since March 2026: 7 hours behind the UK in the UK winter and 8 hours behind in the UK summer. Saskatchewan does not change its clocks either.

Best time to call
Mid-morning UK time, around 9am-11am, reaches eastern Canada's early morning, while UK early afternoon (1pm-3pm) overlaps better with central and mountain business hours. For Vancouver, UK late afternoon (around 4pm-6pm) usually lands in the West Coast's late morning.
Daylight saving notes
Toronto and the other parts of Canada that still change their clocks move them in spring and autumn, but not on the same dates as the UK (the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November), which briefly changes the usual gap by an hour. Manitoba (since 8 March 2026), British Columbia (since 8 March 2026), Alberta (since 18 June 2026) and Saskatchewan do not change their clocks, so their gap to the UK changes only when the UK changes its clocks.
