How GCSE results day 2026 worked
Schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland released GCSE results on Thursday 20 August 2026. Most opened from around 8am UK time, many handing out results between about 8am and 10am, and each school set its own arrangements.
There was no UCAS process for GCSEs: students confirmed sixth form, college or apprenticeship places directly with the provider, often on the same morning.
In England, students who did not get a grade 4 in English or maths generally continued studying the subject after 16, often towards a resit.
Students who thought a grade was wrong asked their school to request a review of marking or an appeal through the exam board, within the published deadlines.
